Three Miscellaneous Internet Items

1. " . . . Whaaaaaat?"

My home page is Google News, so I browse the ol' headlines whenever I open my browser. Occasionally, I'll see a headline that makes me say " . . . Whaaaaaaat?" Tonight, there were two. Big day for weird news:

Founder of Islamic TV station accused of beheading wife

That's just not good for anybody.

Chimp Shot to Death After Mauling Woman
The chimp's name was "Travis."

2. Four Gregs!

A couple weeks ago, I expressed my concern about the direction of HomestarRunner.com. Today's update, however, was more than satisfactorily funny. It's kind of a Teen Boy Squad!

3. A YouTube video. That involves cats. And also a small child being childlike. It's an internet perfect storm!

My friend Chanda posted this on Facebook, and it is cute.

A Development of Concern

The past several months have been very slow, updates-wise, at HomestarRunner.com. I think it's because the dudes who run it have been working on a Strong Bad video game? Or something like a video game? I've always been unsure about the concept.

So it's good news that they've updated for two Mondays in a row (they customarily update every Monday, but before last week, they hadn't put up any new material in over a month). But the two new things they have done are "hremails."

Hremails are Homestar Runner Emails, and they're . . . ok. They're better than puppet stuff (I don't know why, because it's the same people working with the same characters, but the puppets things are never funny) but not as good as Strong Bad emails ("sbemails"). I just don't like Homestar as much. In my opinion, he's funnier when he pops up for a few seconds every now and then to say something stupid than when he's carrying a three-minute cartoon. Plus--and I didn't notice this til the first hremail--he's kind of hard to understand when speaking at long stretches.

What makes me slightly more consternated about this is that it's been over four months since there's been a Strong Bad email, and that was #200, in which they introduced the concept of hremail. So--they achieved a big round number, and they invented a concept that maybe they have more new ideas for. That . . . that doesn't mean there won't be any more Strong Bad emails, does it? Does it?!?!?!?!!!??

Pumpkins!

The gentleman caller and I are going to carve pumpkins on Thursday. I'm pretty pumped.

Although my choices are numerous, I think I'm going to have to go with a Strong Bad pumpkin.

Trogdor would be a strong contender, but I've done that before.

(As you can see, my pumpkin skillz, they are mad.)

Mmm . . . Crossover Goodness

The newest Teen Girl Squad over at homestarrunner.com contains a Weird Al reference. The first person to spot it (and leave me a comment about it--here's hoping people are still reading this blog after my summer hiatus) wins a virtual cookie!

Ridiculous Boyfriend Spotlight On . . .

Homsar!

Yes, I know--if I was going to have a Homestarrunner-type boyfriend, why not Strong Bad? Or Pom Pom? Or even Senor Cardgage? Well, I thought about it, but then I caught sight of my Homsar figurine (what? It's part of a set and I got it for Christmas and it's wicked awesome! Shut up!) and decided to go another way.
According to hrwiki.org (which is, in its own way, far more amazing than wikipedia could ever hope to be--and wikipedia is pretty amazing), "Homsar is perhaps the strangest and most enigmatic of all the primary residents of the Homestar Runner universe. "

You know, the more I read of that hrwiki link to Homsar, the less I feel I have to say, or indeed can say, about him. It has that delightful wikipedia tone that takes even the dumbest of topics seriously. Check it: "Many believe that Homsar speaks in word salads (a speech disorder characteristic of schizophrenia in which grammar and sentence structure is often intact, but the words themselves have no particular meaning), but a detailed analysis of his speech patterns has shown that this is seldom the case." Who did a detailed analysis of his speech patterns? It's a good thing these people are preoccupied by cataloguing the entirety of the Homestarrunner.com universe, or they'd end up taking over the world.

Anyhoo, it's not that Homsar is attractive, or not a cartoon, or intelligent, or even necessarily sentient, but he just makes me happy. His hat! It floats! His words! They make no sense!

And now, three Homsar links, so he can make you happy, too.

I Need Your Advice Again

I'm really starting to depend on you guys to validate my desired purchases. So, check this out:

The Homestar Runner guys have finally created a shirt starring my favorite character, Senor Cardgage! (If you watch the linked-to email, make sure to click on the words "hanging out" after the paper comes down.)

It costs $19 and, more troublingly, I'd have to get it in a girl medium. I don't know if that would be too roomy--but it's Senor Cardgage!

Senor Cardgage!
